Central government employees have received good news regarding special leave benefits. Under the new provisions, employees can now take up to 24 days of special leave after organ donation. This decision has been implemented by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) to ensure that employees get sufficient recovery time after donation.
Official Orders Issued by DoPT
Dr. Anil Kumar, head of NOTTO, has confirmed that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued official orders regarding this leave. These instructions have been uploaded on the government’s website to spread awareness and ensure that employees are informed about their rights. The initiative aims to provide employees with accurate information and encourage organ donation.
Recovery Time and Medical Considerations
Organ donation is a complex surgical procedure, and the recovery process can take a significant amount of time. According to the DoPT order, the government has decided to grant up to 42 days of special casual leave to central government employees who choose to donate organs as a welfare measure.
Rules for Special Leave
The 42-day leave rule applies regardless of the type of organ donation surgery. The DoPT order states that this special leave can be taken continuously from the day of hospitalization. Additionally, if required, it can be availed up to one week before the surgery based on the doctor’s recommendation.
Organs That Can Be Donated
- Kidney Donation – A person can donate one kidney since a single kidney is sufficient for essential bodily functions.
- Pancreas Donation – A portion of the pancreas can be donated as half of the organ is enough to maintain normal functions.
- Liver Donation – A part of the liver can be donated, as the liver has the ability to regenerate itself.
This new provision under the 7th Pay Commission Leave Rules ensures that employees willing to donate organs can recover without financial or professional stress.
